Rainbow Parade 2011
On the 18th of June 2011 the 16th rainbow parade will take place in Vienna. Since 1996 the parade has become one of the most important events for the lesbian gay bisexual and transgender movement. It’s a sign for tolerance, equality and solidarity. Every year the parade reminds of the resistance of lesbians and gays against the police’s systematic repression in June 1969 in New York’s Christopher Street.
Every human deserves the same respect independent of whether they love women or men and independent of their gender identity. This year the slogan of the parade is “Show you face!” The slogan should motivate people to take part in the parade. At 2pm the participants will meet at Börse and Franz-Josefs-Kai.
The parade will start at 3pm passing Schwedenplatz, Stadtpark, Karlsplatz and the parliament. At 6pm it will reach Rathausplatz, where the final celebration will take place. Make a sign for acceptance of homosexuality and enjoy the colourful, amusing and bright show. You will see an impressive demonstration and the great variety of the Austrians lesbian gay bisexual and transgender movement.
