Last week, we have already invited you to a romantic fullmoon boating on the Old Danube. But we have also announced that Vienna still has much more to offer, especially in September. The international appreciated Viennese wine culture can be experienced perfectly on a mild late summer’s day, for instance. This is even fun for the whole family, because also the kids will find their highlights, of course!
Late Summer in Vienna (2)
Vienna Wine Hiking Day
Truly unique for a major city, Vienna possesses more than 700 hectares of wine-growing areas – the green vegetated gardens and hills form a wonderful setting. This scenery can be perfectly explored at the traditional Wine Hiking Day. On September, the 30th from 10 to 18 o’clock you will get the chance to discover the popular Viennese wine culture on three different trails with a total distance of 25 kilometres at first hand. The most beautiful route comprises approximately ten kilometres and proceeds from Neustift over the vineyard Cobenzl to Nussdorf and rewards you with breathtaking viewpoints over the city and the Danube. Moreover, numerous vintners offer samples of their delicious wines in their traditional taverns along the way to sweeten your hike. You recognise them by the pine bunch above the door and a sign which writes “Ausg’steckt is”. Sitting cozily under the grapevines on ale-benches with a glass of wine and a stunning view over Vienna while crickets are chirping… What can be better than that?
Side trip to a farm for children
The routes are ideally suited for seniors, but also for families with children. The offspring can be rewarded with fresh grape juice which is at least as delicious as the wine. There even are special marked trails for buggies in order that really everybody can take part in this impressing event. Furthermore, you have the possibility to join only parts of the hiking route and every starting and exit point is accessible by the public transport means. For families with children, we recommend a side trip to the children’s farm Landgut Cobenzl. There, kids can get an insight in the biological agriculture and learn about the right dealing with farm animals. Also, the manufacture of own groceries and their processing is a topic, so that the children learn to appreciate food and natural resources already in their early years.
For all the passionate hikers who only want to relax in a comfortable bed after an exhausting day, we offer the Indian Summer Discount in our sustainable Boutique Hotel Stadthalle. We are looking forward to seeing you!
